My Other Volunteer Position

Mention a date- recall a task.  April 15-  you realize that is the deadline for filing your tax return.  This year I am helping people with simple returns that include only salary, social security, interest and dividends as a courtesy of the I.R.S. and the United Way.   We attend classroom training and take a test to qualify us to be preparers.  I am working at a local bank that has given us a room to work in 3 days a week.  Naturally there are other facilities scattered around the counties.   It is interesting and above all, I get to meet some great people from all walks of life.

Yesterday,  I had the most wonderful couple who were still holding hands after 66 years of wedded bliss.  That is wondrous to me!  There are lots of happy events to offset the depressing news we hear about the war, tornado and the economy.  I believe a love of people and a variety of things to do keeps me going.   Maybe there is a course I can take “How to do Nothing”?  In the mean time I am using my brain matter so it won’t turn to mush anytime soon.

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste”, that slogan is probably the best one ever written. It doesn’t matter race, gender or age, we need to use our minds to keep from slipping into the oblivion of memory and mental loss. Don’t worry Millie, I don’t see mush anywhere in your future.
