Missing the Children

Now that the school has adopted the policy of Physical Education every day, the format and fitting in of volunteers has changed.  In the past four years, I was spending 3-4  hours three times a week and felt gratified that I was helping the children along with filling my time doing good for my community.  It has now dwindled to one or two hours a week and I am not finding it gratifying or connecting to the children like I did in the past, so I have decided to turn my attentions to other avenues of volunteering.

I enjoy doing income taxes and previously worked for them many years ago and so I thought I would help out with AARP and VITA and prepare taxes a few hours  a week.  There is also a census coming up in 2010 and they are looking for volunteers that will earn a salary.  Sounds good to me.  More money for my dancing cruises in the future.  I will always treasure the time I spent at the school and the many friendships I have made with the teachers and the students.  My wall of class pictures is a daily reminder.
