I found out on Friday afternoon that I was needed by a kindergarten teacher to help with her students. You would think I had won the lottery as a huge smile covered my face. I knew in my heart that everything else that I do was not as fulfilling as the time I spend with the children. Monday couldn’t come soon enough and at 9 in the morning, I was there chatting with Tammy. We discussed the seventeen children and how I could best help them. We set up an area for the supplies I would use and a list of the students.
Tammy called the children together and told them I would be there to help them all day on Mondays and then she glanced in my direction and asked “what should they call me”? I smiled and said would you like to call me Ms Millie or Ms ——-(my last name)? In unison came the answer, Ms Millie. Tammy and I laughed at the happy faces the children were wearing. I felt wonderful knowing I have 17 new-cute as buttons five to six year old children to help learn numbers, letters, words.
Some people need diamonds and furs to be happy, I just need children to keep me happy and motivated. This is my pledge. I pledge always to help any child I can.
