Talk about feeling and looking good! I believe I have the perfect answer and anyone can afford it. Rich or poor makes no difference, nor does age or gender matter.
Can you believe that being silly has transformed Ms Millie into a zany- happy funny lady? Yes, the proof of the pudding as they say is “the smile that has planted itself on my face just this past week.’ Today added to this recipe for enjoying life as there were five of us parading through the halls and up the three floors. Patches and Pearl, Buttons and Flowers and me Sparkles handed out stickers, funny pills and jokes and sometimes a stuffed animal for the person alone in a room to keep him/her company. It reminded a few of us that as children we had our favorite blankie or stuffed animal to comfort us, and so why not provide a little something extra to make a patient happier?
We all marvel at the magical transformation, if only for a moment or two the effect of our crazy costumes, wigs and fun makeup that it has on their faces. As it brings a smile, a chuckle and some smiling eyes, there are also the statements of ” you made my day a little brighter, thank you.” In addition the visitors are very appreciative and think it is a wonderful practice at this hospital to have clowns as volunteers.
When we were all done, the five of us sat and shared a cup of coffee and commented on how wonderful it makes us feel, making others feel good. I recalled a song I always liked named “Be A Clown, all the world loves a Clown” and before we knew we were singing the words out loud and realizing how very true the words were. And so along with my fellow jesters, we hope that what we are doing perhaps will become contagious, and blossom into an epidemic. How wonderful would that be?
