Where has six months gone? It seems like only a few days ago, I was wishing people Happy New Year and now we are heading for the 4th of July 2010. My goodness I just recalled that back in 1976, I was fortunate to be taking my first cruise to Bermuda. The ship would be sailing from New York’s harbor on this holiday and I was not prepared for the beautiful display that appeared before my eyes as we stood on the deck waving to our bon voyage guests. Out in the harbor, along with our ship were many others all decorated with our Red White and Blue colors and Flags waving in celebration of the Bi-Centennial. Our 200 year celebration was in full swing and it was a sight I will never forget along with the pride and gratitude of being an American.
The movie that best describes this wonderful time also is “Yankee Doodle Dandy” featuring James Cagney who happens to be one of my favorite dramatic actors. In this particular movie he is able to show off his skills as a song and dance man and I am wondering if maybe it will be featured this weekend on television. I think I will check the guide just so I don’t miss it.
Besides, James Cagney reminds me of my Dad and that is always a win-win for me. Matter of fact I still remember the words to the song “You’re a Yankee Doodle Dandy”. So as I sing aloud, I would like to wish everyone a great 4th of July weekend.
Please be safe, be happy and above all, be thankful.
