I am a bit taken back when friends stop me and say you are “looking so good” what is your secret? I have to admit it is not all genetics, but some strict discipline and a desire to look the best that I can and to be stronger, healthier and even sexy in my mature years…
Back in 2002 I was carrying about 10 extra pounds on my 5’2″ frame and my tiny waist of yesterday was gradually disappearing. I did not like how I looked and wanted the curves back. My doctor had warned me that being small boned I might be prone to osteoporosis……In previous years I always worked out to Jane Fonda, Cher, Denise Austin and way back (aging myself) to Jack LaLane–..he if anyone ‘inspired me” plus it kept my hyper energy in check..
I joined a Ladies Fitness in my shopping center and while I worked out there on a circuit of machines I began to feel stronger and lose a few inches. A few months down the road they introduced some classes and one of them would be Beginning Hatha Yoga. I had heard good things about it and I remember years ago reading that the Yogi’s lived to be a 100 practicing yoga and eating yogurt………Yogurt became my lunch many years ago and still today I still eat a cup of yogurt every day. I signed up for the Yoga class and I became an instant admirer and an avid pupil……although I didn’t believe I could ever get my legs up or do a bridge or be a pretzel, but today after 3 years I am good………Not only am I more flexible but my bone density has improved and my hyperness is non existent……..I can focus……..and my breathing is improved ten fold.
Next came Pilates and let me tell you “Joseph Pilates” knew what he was doing and saying when he created this concept……….My curves are back- no love handles and I swear I have grown taller……..My posture is the best it has ever been and my complexion is flawless…….This “ME” is looking pretty special and all it took was exercise and good instructors like Michelle and Anne of Harmony Yoga and Pilates their website is www.harmonyyogastudio.com. These two ladies are like my surrogate daughters who are knowlegeable, certified and dedicated. I thank them every day as I stretch and bend and smile at myself…..You did it Little Lady——-You did it…….And my granddaughters who are 18 and 25 have nicknamed me “Teenage NANA”. They tell me that I inspire them and I just beam………Hope it rubs off on you………….
