Think back to when we were young and we played our favorite games or listened to our hit records or just danced for the sake of dancing, how happy it made you feel. It was like “life was a breeze, no worries-no problems we couldn’t fix, just a euphoric carefree feeling”. This is what playing means and it is not just for kids. It is for any age, young- middle-senior it makes no difference except that you are missing out on the opportunity to bring joy and fun into your life once again.
I can say firsthand that I have been trying this fort the past three Fridays and it works. At Fusion Fit Club where I work out, we have a Tai Chi Fusion class for 45 minutes where we are doing the basic Tai Chi moves but to different beats of music and just letting loose with hoots and hollers and whatever it takes for each of us to let go. The stress magically disappears, the smiles are on our faces 24 hours later and we are energized and rejuvenated.
Today I realized this is what playing is all about and what we all need in our lives. If only for fifteen minutes to an hour a day we take time to do something that gives us that wonderful feeling of being free, alive, fun, silly. It could be jumping rope, singing at the top of your lungs pretending to be whoever. Dance like a star, yodel, be a clown-act like your favorite star. Just play have fun.
