Why Should I?

I have been told in the past by a few people that I should “act my age” and I asked how different would I be if  I tried to be someone I do not how to be.  They did not have the answer.  My reply goes something like this:

I only know that I can be downright silly at times and laugh with my unique laugh (so my grand-chldren tell me) I have.  That I enjoy acting like a child full of curiosity and wonder.  I am in awe at so many things and of  the  many people  that I am in contact with on a weekly or daily basis.  It is difficult for  me to be serious unless I am feeling ill,  and I think even then, I cannot stay put in bed and  just feel sorry for myself.

That is one of my underlying fears, that I might not be able to care for myself one day and perhaps not know my name or a member of my families name or recognize them.  For me, being young in mind and body keeps the endorphins flowing through out my system, blocking any bad that might be trying to enter.

Positive energy has to be strong enough to block anything negative is my thinking and I am praying I am correct.  You know for these few folks that are usually negative in more ways than one,  I urge them to jump rope, belt out a tune or two, trying standing on one foot and then the other.  Be a child, laugh like a child and have fun.  Fun is food, fun is therapy. fun is wonderful!   And I would like to add a quote  “Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t laugh”  Maya Angelou

Counting Days Again

Once again I am like a child crossing off days on the calendar, not for my birthday but for the first day of  Daylight Savings time,  which this year is March 14 2010.  This change gives Ms Millie another hour or so of daylight in the evening to gallivant or drive to the mall or do whatever.  And guess what happens only six days later?  We will be celebrating the first day of Spring and  I feel certain that there are great numbers of people feeling the same way. After record snow falls and frigid temperatures, Spring can’t come soon enough.

I know I am ready to shed the sweaters and layers of extra clothing, to keep the chill from my aging, achy body.  Although, I recall even as a child I never really could handle the cold weather.  My fingers and toes were and still are to this day cold to the touch.  Perhaps,  some nice sunny Spring like weather will cheer us all up.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Perfect Timing

Fortunately the wedding went as planned without a drop of snow or rain, just cold and sunny.  I feel it was perfect timing after seeing the blizzard conditions and mounds of snow in the New York area.

Here in Florida, the temperatures are below average with a prediction of near freezing numbers tonight and early tomorrow.  My little friends at school today remarked how cold it is and when I mentioned the snow in New York, they opened their eyes wide in amazement.  Most have never seen snow and yearn to throw a snowball or two.  One asked with a big smile if someone could mail her a snowball?

When I explained what snow was and what would happen to the snowball as it melted, she giggled…. and I am  hoping for an early Spring!  How about you?

Body Thermostat

I have been back in Florida since Sunday evening,  yet it seems my body is still recovering from the way below freezing temps.  In addition to all of this,  I also shared a room with a relative, that loves a cold room to sleep.  I was anxious to return home to Florida’s warm climate, but we are in a cooling trend and we haven’t warmed up as of today.  I am yearning for those low 80’s when I can function without outwear. the layers and get to wear my open shoes with no hose of any kind.   I tell you,  if  it were not  for my wonderful loving family living up North, I probably would stay away unless it was summer-time.

Today,  I did my yoga class for the first time this week and it felt so good to stretch and get the airline kinks out of my body.  My mind has started to clear and I can almost feel stress free once again.  I repeat “Yoga” is the cheapest, easiest form of exercise that is not only good for our body and mind but it also keeps our skin glowing.  It is amazing for me!  Try it!

Smile Pretty

Yesterday, I stopped at the Library and had my photo taken with the Head Librarian and carefully tucked my gift card in my wallet for shopping in the near future.   When I arrived home and switched on the television it seemed my happy moments were short lived,  as  I viewed the devastation of the disaster in Haiti.   Just hearing about the young lives of children that haven’t begun to live their own lives and the elderly is tragic in itself.

How does one survive a disaster of this magnitude?  My wish is that with all of the technology and education we have available to us here in the United States we can easily share it with the Haitians and help them with support and love to show them how to stand on their own feet.  I am counting my blessings!
