Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Can you believe that Dr Seuss is 106 years old and we are still celebrating all of his wonderful work?  My kindergarten class were all looking like cats yesterday as  the teacher had painted some whiskers and a dab of paint on their cute noses, and a few were wearing a tall hat just like the Cat in the Hat.

Look Ms Millie,  look at my face they chanted.   Hmm  I said,  you must be a rabbit,  no,  how about a dog? a horse?  No, they replied smiling, we are cats like Cat in the Hat.  Oh, I see and what cute cats you all are,  “I replied.”

I know I tease them, but they love it and it makes them giggle and it makes me giggle, too.  I then realize , I had read the first Dr. Seuss books back in the early 60’s to my first son.  My oh my how the time flies,  and the good has survived.  My son is now reading Cat in the Hat to his grandson and so it continues on through the generations .  Happy Birthday Dr Seuss and many more happy reading hours for our children.

Let Me Call You Sweetheart

I think this might have been a title to a song many years ago as I recall a melody and because it has been awhile since I have romantically been called sweetheart, todays’ event was more than charming and heart stirring.

Tammy my Classroom Teacher presented me with a half dozen or so handwritten Valentine messages written by our 5-6 year old children in her class telling me I was special, awesome and also sugar and spice.  Alex O all of six  years of age bought me a small heart box of candy with a card asking me to be his sweetheart.  Now,  I don’t recall there being an age when we learn to wish love for another, show kindness and just be extra sweet for this  Valentines Day but what I do know is that Ms Millie will savor each piece of the chocolates and will save the box and card with my other treasured memories .  And by the way Alex,  I accept Alex your offer to be your sweetheart.

After arriving home with my goodies I had another surprise from Flowers. Com.  A spectacular bouquet of flowers in red, pink and some yellow with a wonderful loving message from two very special people in my life, my  son Darrin and his bride Maria.  I placed them in a purple vase saved from past occasions that he has always remembered his Mom with beautiful flowers and there it sits proudly on my table along with my cards.

And,  now I  get double the pleasure and joy from their love.    This is turning out to be a pretty special day for romance.

For all of you may the arrow of love and kindness find you wherever you are this Valentines Day!  Share the love!

Highlights of a Great Occasion

I realized today as my vivid memory replays scenes from the wedding reception that everyone was cordial, happy and most of all relaxed with one another.  In retrospect, I can recall past celebrations filled with stress and family nonsense due to one or two’s insecurities with themselves and perhaps thought they “ruled the roost”.

This time, the bride and groom took hold and planned it all by themselves without any feedback from anyone.  It was their wedding and who better to plan it, invite who they cared to invite and,  have it turn out as the event of events.

I would like to applaud Darrin and Maria for pulling it off with grace, beauty and charm.  We all loved and appreciated the ambiance and the personal touch and I look forward to viewing the many photos that were taken, especially of me posing with the newly married couple.  Personally,  it was an honor to be surrounded by their love and beauty.   All of my relatives and my children join me in praise for this wonderful event for Darrin and Maria.

Will post a photo soon!

Thank Goodness For Love

Flying into New York on Friday for Darrin’s wedding celebration was so exciting as I traveled with his brother Joe and his wife Chanipa.  She was anxious and a little nervous,  as this would be her first meeting with family members in addition to seeing New York for the first time.  I assured her that with her charming smile,  she would make everyone feel comfortable and happy to meet her.

As we relaxed and read on the flight, the announcement came on with the weather report that Islip Airport in Long Island had sunny skies with a brisk temperature of 21 degrees.   I think everyone gasped and wished we could turn the plane around and head back to Florida…I knew I was cold in 50 degrees, how was I going to fare in 21?   With the love of a wonderful occasion, the love of my family, the meeting of new people and the joining of all of us being thankful for this happy occasion for Darrin and Maria (the wonderful happy bride and groom).    It indeed helped with the frigid temperatures as they say “Love conquers all”.
